Spoiler Alert: Do not read unless you are already familiar with this book and you are previewing it perhaps for a younger reader. ——— Some stuff was omitted. Perhaps the adapter/illustrator didn’t feel it was vital? I’ll speak on 2 chapters. In Ch 2, a scene was rightfully included and that part is vital in understanding Tom Buchanan’s character, where he busts Myrtle in the nose, used-to-getting-his-way-all-the-time, abusive, arrogant, hot-headed Tom. It is very relevant. However, a complete scene from Ch 7 is nowhere to be found and that had as much relevance in understanding the ending and a final thought on a couple of the characters eh-hmmm. Why was that scene not included??? This is the scene where Daisy runs Myrtle over because she can’t control herself and is full of making bad decisions after bad decisions. They continue on to Gatsby’s place to figure out how to handle a completely mishandled situation. I did read it was mentioned when talking to Nick but I felt it would have been better understood if perhaps you included a couple visuals. Maybe a distant driver (Daisy) so consumed by the events of the evening that she looks wreckless AND BEHIND THE WHEEL. She was driving. That needs to be included. It’s so easy for a reader only to see visuals to think one way or the other, but she was distraught and she was guilty. That part is key in understanding Daisy. She basically walks away unscathed, pretty much sums up her life, outside of being locked up in lifeless marriage where her husband forever cheats on her from beginning till end. Sure it’s a fast moving spiral of events unfolding, but her recklessness caused two deaths. She and Tom and their money just move along as if nothing ever happened. I love books and I love reading. I did like this graphic novel adaptation. I almost gave this a 4-star because of that one missing visual scene. It’s vital since you literally painted a picture. If you can include Myrtle’s nose, the murder of Gatsby, then a suicide...why leave out visuals of Daisy driving?
