PDF Smokey with FREE EASY Reading!

I've sat stewing over this review for a couple of days now. Ruminating on the notes I took while reading in relation to how it made me feel overall and have to say, I'm still not fully sure what to think about it all as, "Smokey" by Sam Crescent, is a confusing array of beautifully realistic, violence soaked MC drama, embedded within choppy, disjointed prose not at all at the level I normally see with this author.Also, in the beginning chapters there are a bunch of references to Ugly Beast's marriage which confused the hell out of me as there was no mention of the fact this one is actually the second book in a series. As such I realized too late I was missing key points of information needed to fully understand this installment. Something that annoyed me greatly as Crescent's books are usually more clearly labeled. However, beyond the gunk, deep within chapter six this story finally settles past the murky bits and catches its stride. With the remainder of it being a gorgeously dark and twisted tale of emotional destruction and forgiveness.This is the story of Smokey and Ava, he being the hardened, unfeeling president of the Hell’s Bastards MC. A man who has only known deceit and treachery from women in his life and vows to keep his heart walled off or be betrayed by a woman ever again. And Ava, a thirty year old woman deeply damaged by a bad marriage to an uncaring, cruel man. A woman who reclaims her life and moves to a new town to start over, building her dream business and settling in to build a new life devoid of meanness, unfeeling men, and well, men in general.When they meet by chance at a bar sparks immediately fly, but what begins as a sinfully indulgent "sex only" arrangement soon becomes anything but. Afterall, the heart wants what it wants, and no force in the universe can stop it. However, an unseen enemy is also lurking in the shadows waiting to strike, and when he does nothing will ever be the same between them.What follows is absolutely riveting! I will warn you however, this story is not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a fairytale mc romance with grumbly bikers that look/act tough but possess hearts of gold that would never allow them to turn on their women, this is definitely not it. This book is a stunning, beyond heartbreaking, emotional rollercoaster. One that goes down a dangerous, almost deadly path when a misunderstanding leads to bloodshed. An act that all but destroys Smokey and Ava's path forward before their coupling truly even begins. There's is a jarringly violent tale, one which will churn your stomach in places throughout. As one mistake, one unnerving, unseeing mistake leads Smokey down a path of destruction he can never come back from. A stunning twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat and scream with rage on Ava’s behalf.It is a bold, unflinching approach by the author that I respected fully. And while I could never have come to terms with things in the way Ava chooses to in the end, I understand and appreciated every word of their story as there is rarely truth without pain; Ava's reactions throughout, the reactions her truths provoke in Smokey were all important and essential. However one item stuck like a splinter and would not dislodge, Ava is never once afforded Smokey's real name. This was something I couldn't quite get past. Especially given she learns Ugly Beast's name.There cannot be full healing without absolute truth and as a result the ending felt a bit hollow to me.In the end I appreciated this story for its more realistic view of the violence contained within this world. I also loved the gritty, seemingly impossible emotional journey you are taken on. However, the beginning disarray, coupled with the lack of full disclosure between the couple, and the lack of series connection for readers overall knocks this down from what could (and should) easily be a 5-star read to a 3-star one for me.
