It was hard to read the decadence and debauchery of the newly rich 'gentleman smugglers' and equally difficult to see the aggressiveness of the overzealous prosecuting attorney overcharging them to curry political favor, but an interesting read, none-the-less. Since I currently live where much of this took place and where many of the convicted now reside, it seemed important to understand this local history. Gives me new insight on the man currently running for governor, as well. Would have liked to have seen more in the epilogue about individuals and the time they actually served as well as how they got on with their lives, but understand there may have been some privacy concerns.
